BDO World Championship Draw: Bennett faces Mitchell while Greaves takes on legendary Gulliver in O2 opener
Leighton Bennett will open his account with an enthralling first round clash with Scott Mitchell, after the draw for the 2020 BDO World Championship was recorded.
The tournament will be held at London’s Indigo at the O2 for the first time after the Lakeside departure was confirmed 33 years after the inaugural edition.
Glen Durrant defeated Scott Waites in January’s final, with Waites facing 63-year-old Martin Adams in this year’s tournament, whilst ‘Duzza’ will not be back to defend his crown after winning his PDC tour card weeks after his third successive Lakeside triumph.
Bennett’s eagerly-anticipated World Championship debut will see him take on 2015 world champion, Scott Mitchell, with the winner going on to meet either Willem Mandigers or Michael Unterbuchner.
World Trophy winner Jim Williams will begin his campaign against Gary Stone, while World Masters winner John O’Shea takes on Sweden’s Andreas Harrysson in the preliminary round, with the winner facing world number one Wesley Harms.
Former PDC World Championship finalist, Andy Hamilton, takes on whoever reigns triumphant between the in-form Darren Herewini and Simon Stainton.
Ladies’ world champion Mikuru Suzuki, who made history last time around in becoming the first Asian winner of the tournament, will begin her defence against Maria O’Brien – who she defeated in the semi-finals in January.
Number one seed Lisa Ashton will take on Paula Jacklin, while three-time world champion Anastasia Dobromyslova faces Sharon Prins and 15-year-old Beau Greaves locks horns with the legendary 10-time world champion, Trina Gulliver MBE.
Former finalist Fallon Sherrock will meet Australia’s Corrine Hammond in the first round for the third successive year.
The BDO World Championships will take place from January 4-12 at London’s Indigo at the O2.
