Challenge Tour and Development Tour planned to return with six-event stagings in Barnsley

The Challenge Tour and Development Tour will both return this year with six-event stagings at the Barnsley Metrodome in Yorkshire.

Both secondary circuits had each played one weekend before the global health situation led to the suspension of tournaments in mid-March.

Following the return of professional darts with the Summer Series in July, intentions have now been confirmed to allow those without professional status to compete for their World Championship ticket.

The Development Tour will resume with six £10,000 events to be held in Barnsley from September 25-27, with the top two on the Order of Merit receiving a two-year tour card and places at the World Championship.

Ryan Meikle currently leads the way in the standings after clinching a brace of titles in Hildesheim, while Berry van Peer and Wessel Nijman also joined the winners’ circle earlier this year.

The early rounds of the World Youth Championship will then proceed the Development Tour’s conclusion, with the televised final remaining planned for Sunday November 29 at Butlin’s Minehead Resort.

Meanwhile, the Challenge Tour will likewise see six events take place across a gruelling weekend of darts from October 9-11 in Barnsley.

A total of £60,000 will be up for grabs throughout the duration, with the Order of Merit winner qualifying for the World Championship and the top two securing a coveted tour card for two years.

Scott Mitchell sits in pole position on the Order of Merit after pipping Rob Collins, Jitse van der Wal and Matthew Dennant to top spot.
