German Darts Championship: Draw revealed as defending champion Gurney faces Clemens or West

Defending champion Daryl Gurney will face either Steve West or Gabriel Clemens as the German Darts Championship takes place in Hildesheim this weekend.

Following a hiatus of over six months since Gerwyn Price’s success in Belgium, the second European Tour event of 2020 finally takes place in front of a sizeable crowd.

The popular European Tour has been detrimentally affected by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but three events are set to take place ahead of October’s European Championship.

Gurney, who overcame Ricky Evans last year to secure his maiden European Tour honour, will begin his title defence on Saturday afternoon against either West or home favourite Clemens of Germany.

World number one Michael van Gerwen takes on either Steve Lennon or Russian Boris Koltsov, while reigning world champion Peter Wright faces the unseeded Michael Smith or Alan Tabern.

Second seed Ian White hopes to continue his fantastic form in front of the European Tour cameras and meets either Reece Robinson or Max Hopp.

Recently-crowned World Series of Darts Finals champion Price faces a tough second round opponent in either Jeffrey de Zwaan or South Africa’s Devon Petersen.

The German Darts Championship is the final tournament before the cut-off for October’s World Grand Prix, with a number of spaces still up for grabs across the weekend in Hildesheim.

The tournament commences at 12pm on Friday afternoon at Halle 39 and the action will be streamed live via PDCTV and various bookmakers’ websites.
