Jacques claims JDC Super 16 Event 4 title

Alfie Jacques came out on top of a strong field in the JDC’s Super 16 Event 4 on Saturday, defeating Harry Gregory 5-4 in the final.

Following wins for Henry Coates, Gregory and Luke Littler in the opening three events, it was Jacques who completed the four qualifying events with a title heading into the finals in December.

Littler was beaten 3-2 in the last 16 by Gregory in a heavyweight clash, while Coates eased past Ben Carr and Kieran Thompson edged out Connor Pickett in a high-quality clash.

The quarter-finals saw Thompson impress once again as he beat Charlie Manby with a 78 average. Gregory, Jacques and Ashley Marson completed the line-up for the last four, in which the two favourites came out triumphant, Gregory 4-0 against Marson and Jacques 4-2 against Thompson.

In the final, Jacques took a two-leg lead before Gregory came storming back to lead 3-2. However, the game’s topsy-turvy nature continued as Jacques won two legs in 31 darts to go within one of the title.

Gregory forced a deciding leg, and left himself on 74 for the match, but couldn’t take it out and Jacques returned to win the Super 16 Event 4 title and head the table of the eight players qualifying for the finals.

The four event winners are joined by Manby, Thompson, Marson and Nathan Care with the final being played at the PDC Masters at Milton Keynes in February.
