Koltsov and Pascaru triumph at the St Petersburg Darts Weekend

Boris Koltsov and Gabriel Pascaru landed BDO-ranked titles as the first annual St Petersburg Darts Festival took place in Russia.

It was the last weekend of action prior to January’s BDO World Championship, with the Russian Open and St Petersburg Open being held.

Gabriel Pascaru is one of the 40 men to be competing in next month’s prestigious tournament at London’s Indigo at the O2, and the Romanian threw some considerably good darts across the weekend in Russia.

The reigning Hungarian Masters and Ukraine Open champion added to his title haul, lifting the Russian Open on Saturday, and continuing his blistering vein of form.

Pascaru defeated Jiri Brejcha of the Czech Republic 5-3 in the final after having defeated Cyprus’ Ermos Korradou in the semi-finals, while Brejcha had saw off the renowned Russian, Boris Koltsov.

Koltsov’s success came on the following day as he gained revenge on Saturday’s champion, pulling through an emphatic 6-1 winner.

The Russian came through a reasonably tough route to the final, defeating both Romania’s Adrian Frim and his compatriot Aleksei Kadochnikov.

The recent Latvia Open champion, Andrey Pontus, departed in the last four at the hands of Pascaru – who had defeated Brejcha for a second time in the quarter-finals.

Elsewhere, Elena Shulgina dominated the ladies’ side of proceedings, claiming both titles. The Russian denied Alisa Burykina and Kiev Masters champion Ksenia Klochek in the respective finals.

The BDO tour will now undergo a short break throughout December and the festive period prior to January’s World Championship in London.
