Lithuania’s Labanauskas reigns victorious in Sweden
Following Madars Razma’s success on Saturday in Sweden, another newly-introduced tour card winner was crowned victorious, with Lithuania’s Darius Labanauskas coming out on top on Sunday afternoon at Gothenburg’s Apple Hotel.
Just a month after making his William Hill World Darts Championship debut, Labanauskas claimed his coveted PDC tour card in Hildesheim on the final day of European Qualifying School and ‘Lucky D’ topped that with his third PDC Nordic and Baltic title.
It could have been a very different outcome for Labanauskas as, after seeing off Cor Dekker 6-1 in the last 32, the Lithuanian survived multiple match darts against Ricky Nauman and certainly lived up to his nickname of ‘Lucky D’, before eventually pinning double six to prevail.
After witnessing his opponent, Nauman, produce a ton-plus average, Labanauskas upped his game as he averaged 101.4 in denying Oskar Lukasiak, before wins over Daniel Larsson and fellow tour card holder Marko Kantele secured the €1,200 title.
PDC Nordic and Baltic event one winner, Madars Razma, endured a second round exit at the second event in Sweden at the hands of Pauli Finnila.
The PDC Nordic and Baltic tour will resume in March with Denmark’s Slanderup Dart Club hosting Pro Tour events three and four and four European Tour qualifiers.
