Meikle and Evetts victorious on day 2 in Wigan
Ryan Meikle and Ted Evetts were the winners on day 2 of the Development Tour season, as Evetts ended the weekend on top of the order of merit following his second win.
It was Ryan Meikle who came out on top of the first event of the day, defeating Greg Ritchie 5-2 in the final. Meikle swept his way into the quarter finals, where he defeated World Matchplay semi-finalist Jeffrey de Zwaan 5-3. He saw off Geert Nentjes by the same scoreline to book his spot in the final where he saw off Greg Ritchie, claiming his third career Development Tour title. Ritchie made his way into the Last 16, where he hammered the Canadian Dawson Murschell 4-0, before he saw off the Irish pairing of Keane Barry and Ciaran Teehan to reach the final. Meikle proved one step too far for Ritchie, as ‘The Barber’ pinned double nine to win the £2,000 prize.
Ted Evetts came out on top in the fourth tournament of the weekend, seeing off Andrew Davidson 5-1 to bring home his second title of the week. Evetts was not pushed until the Last 16, where he came from 3-1 down to superbly check out 80 to defeat event three winner Meikle. He then strolled to the title in outstanding fashion, beating Ben Cheeseman, Keane Barry and Andrew Davidson by the scoreline of 5-1. Davidson was extremely impressive on his way into the quarter finals, where he produced his performance of the day, hammering Jack Main 5-0 with a 103 average. He came past fellow prospect Callan Rydz in a decider in the semi-final, before he was eventually defeated by ‘Super Ted.’ Rydz had possibly the best display of the day, averaging nearly 106 in hammering Lewis McGuigan en route to the semi-finals.
At the end of the opening weekend, Ted Evetts is sitting pretty at the summit of the Order of Merit, followed by Nathan Rafferty, Meikle, Davidson and Keane Barry. With 2 tour cards and 2 World Championship spots up for grabs, you can expect many players gunning to win events throughout 2019.
