Menzies and Budgen’s Maiden PDC Challenge Tour Title’s! – Report

Here is my Report of Challenge Tour 15 and 16 today from Wigan as Menzies and Budgen claimed their maiden PDC Titles.

Challenge Tour 15 Report:

Cameron Menzies took the first Challenge Tour title of the day, staying strong all tournament, dropping 17 legs all tournament, including 3 last leg deciders and 2 5-0 whitewashes. He beat Mick Todd, Brett Claydon, Kevin Edwards, Robert Smith, Barrie Bates and Mark Walsh on route to the Final, where he beat Mark Frost 5-0 with legs of 14, 15, 15, 18 and 18 and a 94 average. Cameron’s best average was against Mick Todd where he had a 97 average. Menzies worst average of the tournament was against Brett Claydon, he had a 83 average, which is still good for on the Challenge Tour. Menzies did survive match darts in 3 games, against Mick Todd, Kevin Edwards and Robert Smith. Menzies was the deserving winner in the end, playing good darts all tournament, he should be one of the favourites to get a Tour Card at Q School if he doesn’t finish in the top 2 on the Challenge Tour Order Of Merit. There was good runs for Andy Boulton and Mark Walsh as they both lost in the Semi Finals.

Challenge Tour 16 Report:

Lee Budgen won the second event of the day, defeating Michael Barnard 5-3 in the final, taking out a superb 170 checkout to clinch the £2,000 prize. Lee proved averages don’t mean that much, his best average of the was 96 against Kevin Garcia, the rest was in the 80’s. Lee defeated Brett Claydon, Kelvin Hart, Cody Harris, Evander Stevenson, Kevin Garcia and Andy Boulton, then defeating Michael Barnard in the Final. Lee’s 170 to win the event was superb, it had to be said as Barnard missed a bull finish himself. There were good runs for Andy Boulton again, he also reached the Semi Final of the first event of the day, and Matthew Dennant. Congratulations to both Cameron Menzies and Lee Budgen for winning today’s events and congratulations to Jamie Hughes and Krzysztof Ratajski for winning yesterday’s events. And well done to Ratajski for hitting a Nine Dart finish yesterday. Hope you enjoyed my updates over the weekend.
