Modus Icons of Darts: Edhouse excels to claim Day One spoils as Week Three commences

Ritchie Edhouse claimed his first Modus Icons of Darts Live League Phase Two title as Week Three of the initiative commenced on Monday.

Edhouse, who made his World Championship debut in December whilst enduring a second round defeat at the hands of James Wade, won five of his six matches to reign victorious in the midst of a talented group of players.

It was the Hastings-based thrower’s maiden success as became the seventh winner of a Modus Icons of Darts Live League Phase Two title.

Edhouse originally featured in the initial Phase Two line-up before receiving a week-long break last time around, and began Monday’s title-winning campaign with a 4-1 win over management stablemate Scott Marsh.

He then suffered his first and only defeat of the afternoon at the hands of Friday’s winner Boris Koltsov, before immediately returning to winning ways with a comeback win over Spain’s Jose Justicia.

The Alicante-based ace took a 2-0 lead in the encounter, though, Edhouse reeled off the next four legs, registering crucial checkouts of 71 and 121 and an average of 95.35 en route to victory.

Edhouse then thrashed global sensation Fallon Sherrock in her opening match of the afternoon, pinning 50 per cent of his attempts on the outer ring, before producing another finishing masterclass in a 4-0 rout of 19-year-old Jarred Cole.

He subsequently capped off his afternoon’s work with a 4-2 win over the reigning Isle of Man Open winner Mike Warburton, sealing the title with a two-point margin at the top of the table.

Russian number one Koltsov finished second best on Monday afternoon. The 31-year-old started sublimely, winning his opening four matches with considerable ease.

Koltsov, who claimed the spoils on Friday at a canter with a 100 per cent winning record, extended his victorious streak to 10 wins, however, that feat was scuppered by third placed Sherrock.

The 25-year-old ousted a below-par Russian despite her dog Squirtle barking throughout, during a day which saw her run out victorious in four of her six matches.

Sherrock’s most impressive performance arrived in her fourth affair with debutant Marsh as she clocked a 95.07 average and four maximums in a scintillating showing.

Marsh finished rock bottom with results not matching his valiant efforts throughout his first day involved in the Modus Icons of Darts Live League imitative.

Phase Two of the Modus Icons of Darts Live League continues on Tuesday morning with world champions Martin Adams, Scott Mitchell and Mark Webster amongst those competing from their living rooms.
