Morrison and Kewish triumph at the Victorian Classic
Aaron Morrison and Tori Kewish triumphed in the Victorian Classic singles competitions at the Italian-Australian club in Morwell.
South Australia’s Morrison secured the first Australian WDF ranking event of 2020 by edging out pairs partner Jeremy Fagg 8-7 in a nip-and-tuck affair.
There were just three breaks of throw in the fifteen legs but the third, and Morrison’s second of the match, came in the final leg as he took out 48 for a 17-darter to secure an impressive victory.
Morrison, who defeated the likes of James Jackson, Tyler Fitch, Harley Kemp (who beat top seed Justin Thompson 5-4 in the last 16) and Steve Kewish on route to the final, averaged 81.54 and trousers $1,300 AUD for his efforts.
Queensland’s Fagg reached three finals over the course of the weekend but only tasted victory on one occasion, and that came in the men’s pairs final alongside Morrison, where they beat Brody Klinge and Joel Potter 6-1.
In the mixed pairs final, Fagg and Amanda Loch were defeated by Brandon Weening and Joanne Hadley.
In the ladies events, Tori Kewish once again dominated. The 2020 BDO World Championship participant catapulted herself into the top 25 of the ladies WDF rankings by defeating Hadley 6-1 in the singles final with a 70.50 average.
Kewish also won the ladies pairs alongside Abby Morrison after they recorded an impressive victory over Joanne Hadley and Sheryll Beasy, who Kewish later defeated in the singles quarter-finals.
