Nicholson scoops Group Two title as Modus Icons of Darts Live League resumes

Paul Nicholson claimed his second Modus Icons of Darts Live League group as he pulled off another victorious days work on Tuesday.

After finishing third in the overall Week One table and running out victorious on Friday, Nicholson continued to impress in the relatively new initiative, winning three from four in a convincing session.

The Englishman got off the mark with a 13-darter en route to comfortably overcoming emerging youngster and Junior Darts Corporation graduate Jarred Cole, registering a 90.81 average in doing so.

He then denied a terrific 96.38 average and 75 per cent checkout rate from former world youth champion Arron Monk, averaging over 91 himself and reeling in a 170 finish in the seventh leg.

Former World Championship semi-finalist Andy Jenkins subsequently handed Nicholson a major blow as he punished a poor doubles performance in a 5-3 victory, though, later faltered in a whitewash defeat at the hands Monk – who pinned a 152 checkout and averaged over the 100 mark.

Jenkins’ aforementioned defeat assisted Nicholson in winning Group Two as he tied up another two points in a narrow 5-4 win over a determined Robert Collins.

Nicholson finished a magnificent 82 outshot to seal the deal with his Bognor Regis-based opponent sitting on a two-dart checkout to get his second win of the day.

The former Players Championship Finals winner released all emotion after pinning double 16, ahead of his break on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, Jenkins finished second in Group Two following his 5-0 loss to Monk, with the latter ending up in third spot after denying ‘King of the Castle’ Cole in the afternoon’s concluding clash.

For the second day in succession, Challenge Tour high-flyer Collins sits bottom of the table after managing just a solitary win.

The two-time Ladbrokes UK Open qualifier clocked a 96.86 average in his victory over Monk and pinned five of his eight attempts on the outer ring, but struggled to find consistency throughout the entirety.

The Modus Icons of Darts Live League returns on Wednesday from 11am, with Monday’s table-topper Jason Askew returning to action in replace of Nicholson.
