NZ Darts Masters Draw – Tough Openers For Dutch Duo
The first round draw has been completed for the New Zealand Darts Masters, which takes place this weekend, with Michael van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld handed tricky openers.
The Claudelands Arena in Hamilton is the latest stop in the World Series of Darts tour.
van Gerwen, who belatedly got back in the winners’ enclosure in Melbourne last weekend, is drawn against Kyle Anderson, a former Auckland Darts Masters winner, as well as an established PDC player.
van Barneveld also drew a tough first round obstacle in home favourite, Cody Harris, who reached a PDC Pro Tour semi final earlier this month, despite not being a card holder. “Barney” has twice previously defeated Harris in World Series visits to Oceania in 2015 and 2016, and will be looking to go one better than his two previous final appearances in Auckland.
Another eye catching tie sees shock Brisbane Darts Master, Damon Heta, taking on Peter Wright.
Warren Parry has been drafted in to take the place of Corey Cadby, who withdrew due to personal reasons, and has the daunting task of facing Rob Cross in his opener. Other New Zealanders featuring in the tournament are Craig Caldwell, who meets James Wade, World Cup representative Haupai Puha takes on Gary Anderson, and Ben Robb takes on Simon Whitlock.
