PDC Home Tour: Chris Dobey clinches Group 14 as Kai Fan Leung lands a win at 5am Hong Kong time

Chris Dobey reigned victorious as Group 14 of the PDC Home Tour took place on Friday evening, finishing ahead of Ron Meulenkamp, Ciaran Teehan and Hong Kong’s Kai Fan Leung.

Dobey, who was amongst those to compete in the experimental ‘Darts at Home’ events prior to the Home Tour commencing, won two of his three matches to progress to the second phase.

Only Nathan Aspinall, Dave Chisnall, Max Hopp and key worker Jonny Clayton had lived up to the expectation of being the highest-ranked player, with Dobey joining that elite group in prevailing.

The World Grand Prix semi-finalist kicked off the 14th evening of the innovative lockdown tournament as he brushed aside newly-integrated tour card holder Ciaran Teehan.

Subsequently, Leung and Meulenkamp got their campaigns underway in a closely contested affair which culminated in the Dutchman snatching a narrow victory.

After squandering three darts for the match in his opener, Leung – a former finalist on the PDC Asian Tour – returned in the third match of the evening, with missed doubles costing him once again in a 5-1 loss to the emerging Irishman, Teehan.

Dobey then strengthened his chances of claiming top spot with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Meulenkamp, recording an impressive 97.09 average and 71 per cent on the doubles.

Almere-based Meulenkamp ensured that Bedlington’s Dobey would finish top of the pile in the penultimate match of the night as he completed a 5-1 thrashing of his own over 21-year-old Teehan.

Having already secured his place in the second phase of the initiative, a dominant Dobey stepped up to the plate once again for Group 14’s concluding clash – this time enduring a narrow loss at the hands of Leung.

The Hong Kong thrower was competing throughout the earlier hours of the morning as he solely represented the continent of Asia on the Home Tour stage.

In front of only his dog, Bauble, with his daughter and wife both sleeping, the left-handed 36-year-old pinned a scintillating 96.97 average during an impressive win over table-topper Dobey at 5am Hong Kong time.

The Northumberland star claimed first blood in the match of the night, only for Leung to level up with a mesmerising 170 checkout and proceed to construct a two-leg lead.

The pair then traded 15-darters, before Dobey reeled off two legs in succession, including an admirable 11-darter, to send the match to a deserved decider.

Leung found a remarkable 132 set-up shot to leave a double after 12 darts in the all-important leg, before pinning double 16 utilising his last dart in hand to ensure he would not end the evening with a naught next to his name.

The PDC Home Tour resumes on Friday evening as both youth and experience collide in Group 15 of the innovative extravaganza.

Former World Championship finalist Andy Hamilton headlines the field alongside two-time World Championship quarter-finalist Darren Webster, while Scott Baker and 20-year-old Bradley Brooks also compete.
