Taylor Hits Out At Recent DRA Punishments

Phil Taylor has hit out at the Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) criticising the body for handing out various recent fines to PDC players.

In a candid interview with Live Darts, 16 times World Champion Taylor believes certain players have been punished for “having a personality”.

In recent times hefty fines have been handed out by the DRA to Gerwyn Price for his altercation with Gary Anderson at the Grand Slam of Darts, Mickey Mansell for allegedly “not trying” in a Pro Tour event, and James Wade for a hostile volley towards Seigo Asada at the 2019 World Championship.

Daryl Gurney also seems certain to cop punishment from the Authority for his spat with Price at the Premier League last month.

“For any promoter, like Barry Hearn, the best thing is for anyone to be talking about darts” said Taylor.
“It’s not great for the player because they’re the ones getting fined, they get fined and Barry Hearn makes more money, that’s how it goes unfortunately.
“Gerwyn Price, for me, is doing exactly the same as everybody else, I don’t think he’s doing anything different.
“James (Wade) is James, he just plods along and gets on with it, he’s playing the best darts I’ve ever seen him play.
“You want them to have a personality so stop punishing them for having a personality.
“It’s great for the crowd, it’s great for the general public and great for people talking and writing about darts so leave them alone, let them get on with it.”
Taylor himself has been teasing a comeback, stating he has set up a dartboard again at home, with a view to practicing for “several engagements”.
