Torremolinos Festival of Darts cancelled

The highly-advertised Torremolinos Festival of Darts has been cancelled as a result of Spain entering a lockdown period due to rising cases of coronavirus in the country.

Both the British Darts Organisation and World Darts Federation have been detrimentally affected by the current coronavirus situation, with tournaments being either postponed or cancelled across the world.

The popular midweek Torremolios staging was cancelled and will therefore not be rescheduled this year following an announcement from the Spanish President in cancelling all sporting events for a two-week timeframe.

A statement from BDO chairman Des Jacklin read: “We regret to inform you that the Torremolinos Festival of Darts has been cancelled. The BDO were informed at 09.40hrs local time [on Sunday] that the Spanish President made a statement cancelling all sporting events in Spain for at least the next 14 days.

“People who have already arrived into the Sol Principe Hotel will still receive the same level of quality and hospitality during their stay. People who chose not to attend the event will receive a refund in line with booking policy and guidelines as soon as possible.”

Last year’s winners Thibault Tricole of France and wife of BDO chairman Paula Jacklin will presumably return to defend their title in March of next year.
